Featuring Scrufizzer and the late Pino D’Angiò, out now via MDLBEAST Records
17 July 2026 - Young Franco returns with ‘Pull Up’, a genre-blending summer anthem built around a sample of Pino D’Angiò’s 1980 Italian disco classic ‘Ma Quale Idea’. Released via MDLBEAST Records, the track features West London MC Scrufizzer and marks Young Franco’s latest release since signing to the label in a joint venture with Resound Records earlier this year.
‘Ma Quale Idea’ sold over two million copies upon its release and climbed to number two on the Dutch charts, cementing D’Angiò as one of the defining voices of European club music in the early 1980s. Its influence extended well beyond Italy: the same sample would go on to power Madison Avenue's 'Don't Call Me Baby', a track that went Platinum in the UK and Triple Platinum in Australia. The late Italian singer-songwriter passed away in July 2024, and his presence on ‘Pull Up’ lends the track a particular weight, carrying the spirit of that original energy into a new era. Young Franco doesn’t merely sample it; he rebuilds it from the ground up, keeping D’Angiò’s signature flair intact while steering it firmly into the present.
The result is a funky, UK garage-influenced anthem driven by punchy kicks and a guitar riff that anchors the whole record. It moves fast, but Young Franco and his collaborators hold their ground within it. Scrufizzer, the West London MC whose career dates back to the early 2000s and who notably opened for Kendrick Lamar on tour in 2013, cuts through the track with the kind of focused intensity that made him one of the most talked-about voices in the UK’s grime and bashment scene. Where the production pushes forward, Scrufizzer holds firm, and together the two build something that feels both urgent and controlled.
‘Pull Up’ is the kind of track that reflects what makes Young Franco’s output consistently compelling: a willingness to draw from wherever the sound leads, without losing the thread of what makes a record work on a dancefloor. It sits naturally alongside his catalogue of releases, from the techno house and Brazilian funk of ‘Champion Sound’ to his broader history of high-impact collaborations with artists across the UK, Australia, and beyond.
